Russian drones can attack Belgium, the Netherlands, France, and from ships – all the coasts of Europe – European Commissioner

The video was published in his X.

According to Kubilius, Ukrainian air defense systems shoot down 80% of Russian targets, and Ukrainian drones stopped the advance of Russian troops on land and in the Black Sea, and also destroyed the Russian fleet of strategic bombers.

“Ukraine demonstrates that in addition to technology, we need an integrated command and a new ecosystem for warfare,” the European Commissioner emphasized.

Kubilius noted that Europe “is not in a state of war,” but “not in a state of peace,” either.

“Provocations can continue for years. It was Russia that attacked Ukraine and is provoking EU member states. And not vice versa,” the European Commissioner said.

He added that “Russia's provocations are reckless, irresponsible and dangerous.”

“Drones are the future of war and provocations. We are not yet ready for this future. We must act very practically and effectively,” Kubilius said.

According to the European Commissioner, “the whole of Europe is under threat.”

“Russian drones can attack Belgium, the Netherlands, France and others. And drones from ships can attack all the coasts of Europe,” Kubilius said.

He noted that all EU member countries need capabilities to detect drones.

“We must quickly move from ideas to actions. Over the next year, we can create the necessary capabilities of a “drone wall”. There is money for this: by 2030, member states can spend €2.5 trillion on defense,” Kubilius concluded.

Context

At the beginning of October, an EU summit was held in Copenhagen, the key topic of which was strengthening the defense of the European Union, as well as supporting Ukraine, which is defending itself from Russian aggression.

The meeting of leaders of EU member states took place against the backdrop of increasing cases of Russian drones violating the airspace of EU countries, including Denmark. At the summit, special attention was paid to the creation of the so-called “drone wall” – a defense network for detecting and destroying UAVs. They plan to involve Ukraine in the defense project.

Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky took part in the EU summit, saying, in particular, that Kyiv is ready to share the “great experience” gained in the war against the Russian Federation.

On October 2, American journalists wrote that the summit of EU leaders in Copenhagen had reached a “habitual dead end.” Most important issues remained unresolved due to lengthy discussions, despite the threat of war and pressure on the bloc.

In particular, the initiative to create a “drone wall” to protect Europe’s eastern flank from Russian drones has divided EU members. Countries neighboring Russia have demanded immediate protection, while others doubt the project's feasibility and high cost, media reported.
