Greece has destroyed a criminal network that has trafficked dozens of non -Paleti men, who have been beaten and obliged to work on farms from all over the country, with low salaries or even without paying them, the Greek police announced, according to Reuters.
The police charged 17 persons, of which 10 Pakistani citizens, for participating in the band operating at least November 2024. Another 100 people were arrested because they had no legal residence permits.
Men worked and lived in “unhealthy and degrading conditions,” the police said in a statement. The law enforcement agency of the European Union, Europol, has witnessed the operation and will expand the investigation into other countries.
One of the persons accused of belonging to the group, a 29-year-old Nepalese woman, had the task of promoting jobs in Greece and Europe and recruiting men who worked legally in the Balkan countries, including Romania, promising better wages and favorable working conditions.
The tape confiscated the identity documents of the victims upon arrival in Greece, and some were beaten or abducted if they were trying to leave and were forced to pay redemptions to be released
The police said that men, living in temporary shelters or deposits in the center of Greece and the southwest of the Peloponnese Peninsula, worked in difficult conditions, having very little time and receiving minimum wages.
The case is investigated by a prosecutor within the Greek Prosecutor's Office.
