Romania should be more actively involved in international consultations on the situation in Ukraine, in the context of the Trump-Putin summit, says PNL deputy Ionuț Stroe, in a post on the Facebook page.
The deputy says that Donald Trump's dialogue with Vladimir Putin about peace in Ukraine is a first step that cannot be ignored and said that “any initiative that can bring peace to be greeted.”
“As a member of the Foreign Policy Commission, I would have wanted Romania to be more involved in this process. I would have liked to be invited to the restricted consultations between the United States and the European leaders of these days and to take consistent steps to be there,” says Ionuț Stroe.
“I did not participate in the telephone discussion yesterday, which President Trump had with a few European leaders, informing them about the meeting with Putin in Alaska and, consequently, I was not part of the public statement assumed by European leaders after this discussion,” Stroe claims.
Next, the PNL deputy gives Poland, a neighboring state with Ukraine, who “participated in these discussions”.
“We have every right to be at the table of discussions, given the essential geopolitical position of Romania and the constant support we have provided to Ukraine. I hope this will be remedied in the next period, and Romania will actively participate in future restricted consultations.
What NATO and EU leaders go together with Zelenski at the Trump meeting
Ukrainian President Volodimir Zelenski announced on Saturday morning that he spoke an hour on the phone with Donald Trump after he finished the summit with Vladimir Putin in Alaska and that the European leaders were then joined for another and a half.
Zelenski said he would go to Washington on Monday to talk to Trump “all the details of the cessation of killings and war.”
On Sunday, he found out who goes with Zelenski.
The President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, said he would be with the Ukrainian leader at the meeting with Donald Trump from the White House.
Shortly after the announcement, the German government said that Chancellor Friedrich Merz will be present in the Oval Office, and then similar ads have come for the participation of French President Emmanuel Macron and the Finnish, Alexander Stubb. Also, NATO informed that the secretary-general of the North Atlantic Alliance, Mark Rutte, will also go to Washington.
