EU drone wall is not so quickly. President of Lithuania: The first stage can be ready until 2028.

The President of Lithuania Gitanas Nauseda stated on Thursday that the first stage of the “drone wall” could be completed before the beginning of the next financial framework of the European Union 2028-34.

– Until the beginning of the next many years of financial framework, at least the first stage could be made – Nauseda told journalists before the summit of the European political community in Copenhagen. His statement was cited by the BNS agency.

– Perhaps the next EU document will include money specially intended for this purpose so that we can go to the next stage of construction of the “drone wall” – he added.

Last week, the defense ministers of ten countries, mainly from the eastern part of the EU, began talks about the plan to create a drone detection and knocking system.

Nauseda found this project ambitious, but he emphasized that the last incidents in EU countries show that this is a problem that is not limited to countries bordering Russia. “Initially, we thought that this is a threat only to countries directly bordering with Belarus and Russia, but recent events in Denmark have shown that countries that have no limits with the Russian Federation were also exposed,” he noted.

Last week, there were several incidents related to the presence of drones in Denmark, including over the airports in Copenhagen and in Aalborg, as well as in the area of ​​Danish military facilities. (PAP)
