– On Wednesday, we achieved record energy production in history in Poland. It was 30 gigawatts. Despite record demand, thanks to record production and safe systems, we could also afford to export – exactly at the time when the demand was greatest – said the head of government.

Polish energy industry ready for “more aggressive” attacks

The Prime Minister also announced that he had instructed the government to remain ready against the threat of renewed attacks on the Polish energy system.

– Today I mobilized all ministers, as well as the secret services, to… keep your finger on the pulse and be aware that all these attacks can be more aggressive and more sophisticatedto be prepared for various scenarios. Previous attempts did not bring the attackers the results they expected – also thanks to the work of our people who are involved in the security of the energy system, Tusk emphasized.

Coal, gas and renewable energy – where does this power come from?

On Wednesday, the vice-president of Polskie Sieci Elektroenergetyczne, Konrad Purchała, wrote on LinkedIn that the national generating capacity produced electricity with a capacity of over 30 GW that day.

It took place at approximately 10.00, when gross demand amounted to almost 28 GW, with simultaneous exports sometimes reaching 2.5 GW – he said.

In Purchała's opinion, this level of power generation was possible thanks to the participation of coal, gas and renewable energy sources in energy production.

“This is why we are developing the national power system to offer such flexibility,” added the vice-president of PSE.

A series of demand records

Earlier on Monday, PSE announced that on Friday, January 9 this year. recorded a record demand for power in the national power system, which amounted to 29.2 GW gross. The power grid operator indicated that the previous highest power demand was recorded in January 2024. At that time it amounted to 28.6 GW gross.

The vast majority of demand was balanced thanks to the generation of domestic sourcesprimarily thermal, and the operator had an appropriate power reserve. At the time of the record, the balance of cross-border exchange amounted to approximately 732 MW towards imports to Poland,” the company reported on Monday.

Polskie Sieci Elektroenergetyczne is a 100% strategic company. belonging to the State Treasury. Performs the duties of the operator of the electricity transmission system. It manages the transmission system, which includes, among others: 400 and 220 kV transmission lines and over 100 highest voltage stations. (PAP)
