HegeSeth called hundreds of generals for an extraordinary meeting

The minister of defense (wars) USA Pete HegeSth called for an extraordinary meeting at the Quantico base in Virginia hundreds of leading commanders of the armed forces, without giving a reason, “Washington Post” and other media said on Thursday. The unprecedented meeting was to arouse concerns in the army.

According to Washington Post, which was the first to provide this information, the meeting is to take place next week at the Base of the Marine Corps at Quantico, Virginia, near Washington. All commanders were to be invited to the meeting in the rank of a brigade general (or his counterpart in the Navy) or higher, also those stationed in Europe, in the Middle East and in the Indo-Pacific region.

According to the newspaper, the minister did not give the reason for the convening of commanders and invited generals do not know about it. The spokesman for the Pentagon Sean Parnell only confirmed that “the Minister of War would turn to the high -ranking military commanders in the first half of next week.”

According to the journal and the Reuters agency, the sudden and probably unprecedented meeting of the highest -ranking commanders caused anxiety in the army, as well as concerns about security matters.

– People are very concerned. They have no idea what this means – said one of the interlocutors in an interview with “WP”.

– Gofo (generals and older officers – PAP) is not called, who command their people and global forces, to the auditorium at DC (Washington – PAP), not to say why, why, what is the topic or action plan – added another interlocutor.

The newspaper pointed out that the meeting will take place against the background of deep changes introduced in the defense ministry by HegeSetha, including plans regarding the reduction of the number of generals by 20 percent. and dismissals of many commanders, e.g. the head of the DIA Military Intelligence Agency.

Some sources of “WP” have estimated that they expect that at the meeting the topic of the new national defense strategy, prepared by the Pentagon. In the new document, the defense of the territory of the country is to be considered as priority, and not – as in recent years – stopping China and competition with Beijing.
