The flames have not yet been extinguished, and the firefighters continue the efforts to limit the damage and risks. At the scene, 26 extinguishing vehicles intervened, and on Wednesday morning, another 14 crews were acting, supported by backhoe and specialized robots.
More than 100 firefighters worked at night, and the environmental authorities moved a mobile laboratory in the Vatra Luminoasa area to monitor the pollution in real time.
Dense smoke affects the entire capital
The dense and toxic smoke, carried by the wind over long distances, affected the quality of the air throughout Bucharest. The Ministry of the Environment has announced exceeds more than seven times of the limits allowed for PM10 and PM2.5 particles. The most affected areas are Mega Mall, Fântânica and the Armenian cemetery.
The population received four RO-allert messages, which was advised to stay in housing with closed windows, stop ventilation systems and use improvised masks of moist textile materials. Vulnerable people – children, elderly and patients with respiratory or heart disease have been warned to avoid exposure.
Environment Minister: Has Environment Authorization
The Minister of the Environment, Diana Buzoianu, added that the unit had environmental authorizations and that in 2025 controls were carried out, after which everything was considered okay: “Today, the cause must be analyzed, much more in detail, after the fire has been extinguished. (…) I understand that there are all the environmental authorizations obtained in those halls, that controls were made in 2025 and following the controls things came out. “.
As for the smoke released, Buzoianu said that the risk for the population was limited over time. “Obviously, when such a fire takes place, all recommendations are for people not to go to that areas, not to go, to go through this smoke. But given that the exposure was limited to several hours during the evening, of course today the world is okay to go out on the street”, The LIVE Minister of the Environment said at Antena 3 CNN.
The cause of the fire, under investigation
Sources in the investigation indicate that the hall was rented by a butcter and that the fire broke out from the photovoltaic panels mounted on the roof.
The authorities continue the intervention and constantly supervise the evolution of the situation to prevent other incidents.
