The Danish police said on Tuesday that the drones because of which, for several hours, the main airport of the country was closed to have been piloted by “a capable operator”, reports Reuters. The drones “disappeared” then, without knowing where, and so far no suspect has been identified, officials quoted by the Danish press said.

The airports in Copenhagen and the Norwegian capital Oslo, the busiest in the northern region, were closed for hours after Drone were observed in their airspace Monday night, leaving tens of thousands of passengers trapped while the flights were maintained.

Copenhagen airport was closed for four hours after two or three large drones were observed flying in its immediate vicinity, and which Oslo airport was closed for three hours after two drones were seen.

On Tuesday morning, Jens Jespersen, head of the Copenhagen Police, held a press conference with Morten Frundsgaard, head of the National Air Traffic Service and Kristoffer Blink Brand, director of Copenhagen Airport, according to the Danish Politiken.

Thirty -five flights to Copenhagen were redirected to nearby airports. The drones caused 100 flight cancellations and affected 20,000 travelers, according to them.

Drones “behaved strange” and came from different directions

The drones behaved “in a very strange way,” says Jens Jespersen about the big drones that were seen at the airport, adding that they came from several directions.

The number of drones, their size and flight trajectory have caused the police to believe that behind them is what has qualified as a “capable operator”. It could be a foreign power, the police admitted, without speculating on its identity.

Jespersen explained why the police did not break down the unidentified drones on Monday evening: “An airport is a very inappropriate place for something to fall from heaven,” he said, adding that their breaking would have had serious consequences, because the airport is located in a densely populated area.

“The way the drones worked, their size and the time above the target have led us to conclude that a capable actor is probably behind the use of drones,” he stressed.

Jespersen said that, according to the police evaluation, no one was in danger and no damage was produced, but after it happened, the authorities will rethink the preparation measures to prevent a similar incident.
