Russia Increases Diesel Production to 180,000 Tons Daily Amid Export Deal

Russia ramps up diesel production to 180,000 tons per day, with at least 40,000 tons available for export.

According to agency sources, diesel production in Russia fell to approximately 160,000 tons per day in early October, down from 175,000 tons in September. However, following the issuance of export quotas in mid-October, production has begun to rise, nearing 180,000 tons per day.

Sources indicate that domestic diesel consumption in Russia typically drops to around 140,000 tons per day in October. This suggests that at least 40,000 tons per day could remain available for export, amounting to over 1 million tons monthly. Of this, approximately 200,000 to 300,000 tons may be needed by neighboring countries.

In August, Russia had imposed a ban on diesel fuel exports, forcing oil companies to cut production. Traders reported that starting October 1, the Russian government allowed exceptions to this ban and issued quotas for fuel supplies under an agreement with the United States.

Reuters sources expect the Russian government to maintain the ban and regulate exports through quotas, monitoring the domestic market situation and production changes.

On October 23, tracking systems noted a Maltese-flagged tanker carrying 40,000 tons of Russian diesel to New York. On the same day, Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov stated that shipments of Russian diesel to the U.S. would continue regularly.
