Germany to Join First Ukraine Coalition Military Exercise in Romania

The German Armed Forces are set to participate in the inaugural military exercise of the Ukraine Coalition this November, with operations taking place in Poland, Romania’s airspace, and the western Black Sea, according to German news agency DPA.

A spokesperson from the German defense ministry confirmed to DPA that Germany will contribute ten officers, two A400M refueling aircraft operating from Germany, and logistical support. Allied troops will receive assistance for movements within Germany.

Germany’s involvement in the exercise, known in Polish as Koalicja 2026, reflects a commitment to unity with partner nations, the official stated in response to inquiries from DPA.

This exercise will serve as the first operational readiness test for the multinational force established by Ukraine’s allies under the leadership of France and the United Kingdom, aimed at ensuring a future peace agreement with Russia.

The Ukraine Coalition, formed during a summit in Berlin last December, includes approximately 35 nations. In July, French President Emmanuel Macron announced that the allied military force is operational, with initial exercises planned for 2026 in neighboring countries of Ukraine.

The scale of troops involved in the November maneuvers remains uncertain. UK Defense Secretary Wes Sterling mentioned in October during a visit to Washington that “thousands” of soldiers are expected, while a recent report by the British newspaper The Times indicated a potential participation of 1,500 French, British, and German troops, a figure that has yet to be officially confirmed.
