Denmark Supplies Ukraine with Thousands of F-16 Munitions to Combat Shahed Drones

The Danish Ministry of Defense has confirmed the rapid delivery of thousands of munitions for F-16 fighter jets to Ukraine, which are already being utilized by Ukrainian pilots to intercept Shahed drones.
In a statement, officials expressed gratitude towards Denmark for its swift and effective response to the request for additional ammunition. They emphasized that such prompt support is crucial for enhancing Ukraine’s air defense capabilities and protecting civilians from Russian aerial assaults.
As of now, F-16s are considered one of the most effective tools against the Shahed drones, according to Ukraine’s Ministry of Defense.
Context
- The Wall Street Journal reported on September 29 that prolonged maintenance delays have rendered part of Ukraine’s F-16 fleet inoperative, exacerbating vulnerabilities in the country’s air defense. The publication noted that F-16s are optimal for countering the drone assaults consistently launched by Russia, with President Volodymyr Zelensky later confirming that about half of Ukraine’s F-16 fleet has been stalled for maintenance in Europe.
- On October 1, Zelensky announced that the Ministry of Defense and the President’s Office would conduct a review of agreements with partners to ensure that the F-16s receive necessary ammunition. He also stated on October 17 that confirmations had been received from international partners regarding the supply of spare parts and munitions for the F-16s.
