Jakub Stypuła Appointed Head of Orlen Termika Amid Controversy

Jakub Stypuła has been appointed as the new head of Orlen Termika, starting his role on October 12. He takes over from Andrzej Gajewski, who was dismissed in September after making controversial comments regarding potential coal shortages for the upcoming heating season.

Previously, Stypuła led Polimex Mostostal until July 2024, and there were indications of new challenges ahead of his appointment. Gajewski’s removal became public a day after he warned about the possible coal shortage during a conference in Międzyzdroje, where he highlighted the risks associated with coal availability for the winter season.

Despite Gajewski’s concerns, government representatives later assured the public that there would be enough coal for the winter.

Experienced Leader Takes Charge

Stypuła brings over 20 years of managerial experience to Orlen Termika, having graduated from the Faculty of Law and Administration at the University of Warsaw. His expertise lies in investment management within the energy and construction sectors, focusing on organizational, cost-related, legal, and environmental issues, alongside global project management methodologies.

He has been involved in major energy and infrastructure projects valued at over 7 billion PLN, including the design of the CPK airport, the construction of Gaz-System’s gas pipelines, and the modernization of energy and railway infrastructure.

Stypuła previously served as the investment director at Gaz-System for six years, managing a 4.5 billion PLN program to build 1,500 km of gas transmission networks and establishing Poland’s first investor supply system for pipes and fittings.

He holds the title of “Third Degree Mining Director” and is honored with the badge “Meritorious for Energy.”
