Trump’s Representatives Set for Key Talks with Putin Amid Winter Concerns

A significant meeting is scheduled to take place in Miami on October 9-10, where representatives of former President Donald Trump will engage in negotiations with Russian President Vladimir Putin, according to reports. The Trump administration is aiming for a diplomatic breakthrough before the upcoming midterm elections and prior to the harsh winter expected in Ukraine.
An insider stated, “Everyone is concerned about winter. It will be a difficult winter if the war does not end. Therefore, the U.S. is attempting to mediate a unified proposal among the parties involved.” While Ukraine has expressed willingness to consider a ceasefire, Russia’s interest in such a resolution remains limited, as noted in the report.
Recently, Witikoff and Kushner met with Trump to present the latest proposals and gather his feedback. The meeting also included U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent and Deputy National Security Advisor Michael Nidham.
On the evening of October 8, President Volodymyr Zelensky announced the composition of the Ukrainian delegation, which includes head of the President’s Office Kyrylo Budanov, his first deputy Serhiy Kyslytsia, head of the ruling party’s parliamentary faction Davyd Arakhamia, and head of the Foreign Intelligence Service Rustem Umerov.
Advisors on national security from France, the United Kingdom, and Germany will also attend the meeting, along with representatives from NATO and the EU.
According to Axios, the parties will discuss security guarantees for Ukraine, plans for post-war prosperity, and various other aspects of the ongoing conflict.
A Ukrainian official, speaking anonymously, noted that despite skepticism in Kyiv, the U.S. midterm elections and Russia’s need to lift sanctions could lead to the illegitimate President of Russia, Vladimir Putin, agreeing to a potential ceasefire.
Witikoff and Kushner may travel to Moscow later this month for further negotiations with Putin, as reported by the media source.
