Mihai Stoica Defends Himself Against Marius Baciu’s Claims on Live TV

Recent statements made by Marius Baciu, the former first assistant at FCSB, have sparked a strong reaction from the club’s management. Mihai Stoica, the chairman of the board, took to live television to clarify the situation by reading messages that Baciu had sent during his time training the team, which is now under Laurențiu Reghecampf.
Baciu’s tenure at FCSB ended abruptly on September 23 after just four months, following a heavy 0-5 defeat to champions Universitatea Craiova. In his first public comments since leaving, Baciu criticized Stoica for not being as supportive on television as he appeared to be during training and at the stadium.
MM Stoica’s Response to Baciu’s Accusations
Baciu expressed, “I respect MM for my entire life, but I did not see him as I knew him from the stadium. When I saw him on broadcasts, he seemed to avoid engagement. I did not feel very supported, nor that he wanted to empower me. My mother, 72, and my father watched television and asked, ‘Does that guy have something against you?’ I never saw the shows myself, but family members would inform me. I have nothing to reproach MM for at the stadium,” he said recently.
Stoica quickly responded to the accusations, reading messages exchanged between the two, in which Baciu explicitly thanked him for his public support.
He began by reading a message from August 24: “Congratulations on the show, president! Top.” Another from September 8 read: “Thank you so much for your support and kind words, MM! I have had some tough days. I completely understand you. I leave everything in God’s hands!”
“I don’t understand! Sometimes, I’m glad I don’t talk to anyone on the phone except Gigi. I send messages. I hate talking on the phone. That way, I keep the messages. I have made it very clear that I always preferred a foreign coach. It didn’t work out; Gigi decides. I stated that if it’s a Romanian, they must have proven something to work with us, or be Dică, Rădoi, Baciu—a former Stela glory. What more could I have said on the broadcasts? I supported every coach I worked with because it was in my best interest for things to go well.
Yes, I am somewhat surprised by what he says. One moment you thank me for what I said on the shows… but you never told me: ‘Hey, my mother says you didn’t support me,’” Stoica added.
Baciu remarked, “Becali was never aggressive with me. Most of my conversations were with MM. I didn’t talk much with Mr. Becali. I never wanted to bypass MM. Now, if he transmitted what we discussed, we had some ideas and we always communicated them. I never wanted to bypass MM. You can think whatever you want about whether he told him or not. I am at peace knowing that as the head of the staff, I did everything we could to ensure things were done professionally and correctly.”
