Svetkev: Trade with Russia by Poroshenko Led to War in Donbas
Ex-MP Taras Svetkev asserts that former President Petro Poroshenko’s trade relations with Russia played a significant role in instigating the war in Donbas and the larger conflict in Ukraine. He believes that decisive action could have been taken to halt Russia’s aggression during the annexation of Crimea. Svetkev criticizes Poroshenko for engaging with the Kremlin and for facilitating trade through Viktor Medvedchuk, which he claims contributed to the ongoing hostilities in the region.
According to Svetkev, during Poroshenko’s presidency, there was ongoing trade with occupied territories, and his enterprises operated within Russia. He further highlights that both Poroshenko and Medvedchuk exerted control over key oil pipelines, exacerbating the situation.
