Oleksandr Symchyshyn, the mayor of Khmelnytskyi, has been awarded the title of ‘Mayor of the Year’ in the category of large cities during the 30th anniversary of the ‘Person of the Year 2025’ program. This recognition highlights his significant efforts in supporting defense forces, veterans, and families of fallen soldiers. Over the past three years, approximately 2.66 billion UAH from the community budget has been allocated to defense initiatives.
In addition to this accolade, the Khmelnytskyi community secured the first place in the ‘Best Social Community’ competition for the year 2025. Noteworthy achievements during Symchyshyn’s tenure include high transparency and openness ratings, an upgrade of nearly 90% of the bus and trolleybus fleet, and the acquisition of 44 new trolleybuses within the last year.
The community has also modernized its waste management system and promoted distributed energy generation. The project ‘2 MW of Solar Energy’ for the Khmelnytskyi Vodokanal was recognized with the 100 gREen AWARD-2025, and the community has participated in the European Energy Award.
Symchyshyn’s administration has fostered international cooperation with cities such as Stuttgart, Dresden, and Tampa, advancing partnerships in investment, education, energy, medicine, digitalization, and culture. Since taking office in 2015, Oleksandr Symchyshyn has been a candidate of historical sciences and heads the Khmelnytskyi regional branch of the Association of Cities of Ukraine.
