Ukraine has not adequately prepared for the emergence of new reactive drones from Russia, according to Serhiy Rakhmanin, a member of the Holos party. He stated that while the country was ready for the reactive Shahed drones, they were not prepared for the faster and higher-flying Geran-4 and Geran-5 drones, which can reach altitudes of 7 to 10 kilometers and speeds between 450 and 650 kilometers per hour. Rakhmanin noted that this oversight has left many air defense systems ineffective against these new threats, as conventional interceptors cannot catch them, and scaling up effective reactive interceptors poses challenges due to high costs and a shortage of engines.
Additionally, Rakhmanin raised concerns regarding budgetary issues, claiming that Fedotov redirected funds allocated for military salaries, intended for year-end payments, to other purposes. This has resulted in a significant gap in the defense budget, as only 1 to 1.5 percent of military contracts have been signed by Fedotov. He emphasized that even if these contracts were signed en masse, the budget lacks sufficient funds to fulfill these obligations.
