A tragic incident occurred at a school in Staskov, located in northwestern Slovakia, where a 14-year-old student attacked two teachers and a classmate. The attack resulted in the death of a 61-year-old teacher, who succumbed to stab wounds, as reported by emergency services and authorities on Tuesday.
In addition to the deceased, a 44-year-old teacher was critically injured in the chest, and a child was also wounded. Both are currently receiving medical treatment at a nearby hospital, according to medical personnel.
The police confirmed that “the situation is now under control” following the attack. President Peter Pellegrini expressed his deep sorrow over the tragic event, stating he was shocked that this was yet another case of a student attacking educators and peers.
Pellegrini emphasized that the rising aggression and intolerance, largely propagated by social media and, regrettably, some politicians, are poisoning public discourse and affecting children’s behavior in schools.
Prime Minister Robert Fico extended his condolences to the victim’s family and stated he is closely monitoring the aftermath of this tragic event.
This incident recalls a similar attack in January 2025, when a teenager fatally stabbed a classmate and a teacher while severely injuring another person at a high school in Spiska Stara Ves, situated in northeastern Slovakia.
