CNN, MS NOW, and Politico announced on Monday their intention to file a lawsuit to regain access to the White House, asserting their rights to freedom of the press. This action comes after the Trump administration denied them entry for three days, as reported by France Presse.
In a joint statement published on platform X, the media organizations stated, “This morning, we notified the government that we are initiating a judicial procedure today to defend our rights under the First Amendment and the principle that the government does not dictate what the press publishes.”
The revocation of their credentials was executed without prior notice or any procedural justification, leading to concerns over press freedom. The media groups emphasized that allowing such actions to go unchallenged endangers independent journalism and the public’s right to receive information free from government influence.
The developments follow Donald Trump’s surprising announcement on Friday, declaring an immediate ban on access for CNN, MS NOW, and Politico, marking a significant escalation in his ongoing conflict with the media.
Starting the following day, journalists from these outlets were barred from entering the White House, a historically unprecedented move criticized as a violation of press freedoms. The White House Correspondents’ Association stressed that the American public must have the ability to hold elected officials accountable through a free and independent press, regardless of governmental approval.
Condemning the decision as a violation of the First Amendment of the U.S. Constitution, the association called on the administration to “immediately restore access” to the affected journalists.
