Reports indicate that General Grunis, who led troops in the Bakhmut area, has died. The general commanded the 4th Motorized Rifle Brigade, which was formed from armed groups associated with the self-proclaimed “LNR” in 2014.

He was a graduate of the Kazan Suvorov Military School and was listed as eliminated in the “Peacemaker” database with a reported date of death in September 2026.
According to the Ukrainian monitoring channel Exilenova+, Grunis played a direct role in commanding Russian forces during combat against Ukraine, particularly in Bakhmut and Konstantinivka.
The “Militarnyi” outlet notes that Grunis’s brigade, the 4th Motorized Rifle Brigade (military unit 40318), was integrated into the Russian Armed Forces after the unification of these formations. It became part of the 2nd Army Corps and later the newly established 3rd Guards Combined Arms Army of the Southern Military District of Russia.
