On September 12, a Russian missile strike targeted a fuel station and a railway line in Volyn, Ukraine, leading to significant damage. The impact of debris ignited the fuel station and caused several nearby trucks to catch fire.
According to Chernysh, all operations at the border were halted during the air alert, with personnel seeking shelter. By 10:00 AM, the border crossing was reported to be operating normally, as stated by Margarita Vershinina, a spokesperson for the Volyn border detachment.
Additionally, Russian forces attacked railway infrastructure near the Yahodyn-Dorogusk crossing, as confirmed by Oleksandr Shevchenko, the deputy director for passenger transport at Ukrzaliznytsia. A Russian drone struck the locomotive of the Kyiv-Warsaw train, which was en route to Poland.
Fortunately, the monitoring team had alerted the train crew about the threat in advance. At the moment of the strike, the train was two kilometers from the Polish border, and there were no reported casualties.
This assault prompted a response from Ukraine’s Foreign Minister Andriy Sybiha, who was quoted in a Telegram statement by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. He described the Russian strikes near the Ukrainian-Polish border as barbaric acts of terror by President Vladimir Putin, emphasizing that such aggression directly threatens the European Union and NATO.
Sybiha urged international partners to take immediate action by implementing all possible sanctions against Russia, including a total trade embargo, restrictions on entry to partner countries, and comprehensive sanctions targeting the Russian military-industrial complex.
