Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian issued a stark warning on Friday, stating that the pressure exerted by the United States on Iran has reached a “critical and dangerous” level. This statement was made during his visit to India ahead of the BRICS diplomatic forum summit, according to reports from France Presse and Agerpres.
Pezeshkian emphasized that Iran has faced intense sanctions over recent years, which have escalated in recent months due to military aggression from the US and Israel. He noted the current world is experiencing an unprecedented level of complexity.
He further explained, “When a country faces political and military pressures affecting its trade, energy, infrastructure, and financial system, the repercussions extend beyond its borders.”
Iran’s economy, already weakened by decades of international sanctions, was targeted in a military action by the US and Israel on February 28. In response, Iran has blocked the strategic Strait of Hormuz, which prior to the conflict accounted for 20% of global oil transit. This blockade, ongoing for six months amid hostilities, continues to drive global fuel prices higher.
Pezeshkian, on his first official visit to India, is scheduled to meet with Prime Minister Narendra Modi later in the afternoon for bilateral discussions, according to Indian diplomatic sources.
