U.S. President Donald Trump has stated he does not want a specific Canadian aircraft to enter the American market. In a recent post on Truth Social, Trump declared, “End the sale of Bombardier products in the United States! Their products are not good enough.”
Furthermore, Trump indicated that if Bombardier wishes to conduct business in the U.S., it must build its jets domestically. The Montreal-based manufacturer is known for producing business jets and luxury private aircraft.
In a statement on its website, Bombardier emphasized its significant role in the U.S. aviation industry, asserting that it creates “tens of thousands of jobs across the United States.” The company highlighted that its employees are based in various locations throughout the U.S., with facilities in Kansas, Texas, Arizona, Florida, Connecticut, Illinois, Delaware, California, New Jersey, and Washington, D.C., employing workers in over 20 states.
Bombardier also noted that it uses American-made aviation components, including engines, wings, and avionics, and that its supply chain involves 2,800 American businesses across 47 states.
Trump’s post comes amid escalating trade tensions between the neighboring countries. A new round of Canadian tariffs went into effect on Tuesday, imposing 50% duties on hundreds of American goods, including cheese, honey, and aluminum foil. These measures are retaliation against the U.S.’s own 50% tariffs on Canadian products, such as dairy, alcohol, and electronics.
