Lavrov Family Members Acquire UAE Passports Amid Controversy

Relatives of Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov have recently acquired citizenship in the United Arab Emirates (UAE), according to reports from the Anti-Corruption Foundation (FBK). Among them, Poliakova received her UAE citizenship “for services to the state,” although the specifics of these services remain undisclosed.

Kovalova, another family member, was issued her passport on December 17, 2022, just 17 days prior to her mother’s, citing “employment” as the reason. Prior to this, Kovalova had resided in the United Kingdom, where FBK discovered her luxurious property valued at £4.4 million. Following the onset of the war in Ukraine and subsequent sanctions, she left the UK and secured a position at Qatar Investment in Doha, which facilitated the necessary documentation for her passport.

FBK noted, “Due to the actions of [illegitimate President of the Russian Federation Vladimir] Putin and Lavrov, holding a Russian passport is not particularly strong at the moment. Thus, all patriotic supporters of Putin are acquiring Emirati passports.”
