Dan Dungaciu, the first vice president of the Alliance for the Unity of Romanians (AUR), shared a brief message on social media following the electoral success of the Alternative for Germany (AfD) in Saxony-Anhalt.
According to exit poll results, the AfD garnered 44.5% of the vote in the eastern state, surpassing its competitors.
“AfD – 44.5%! How much more do you need to wake up? Is it not time to talk about Romania as well?” Dungaciu remarked on Facebook Sunday evening.

The far-right AfD achieved 44.5% of the votes, as reported by ARD television, sharply up from 20.8% in 2021.
In contrast, the CDU party led by Chancellor Friedrich Merz fell to 18.5%, down from 37.1% in 2021. The conservatives, significant losers in this election, have been governing Saxony-Anhalt since 2002.
The radical left party (Die Linke) received 9.5%, while the Greens captured 9% and the Social Democrats (SPD) received 8%. The Free Democrats (FDP) failed to surpass the electoral threshold.
Lars Klingbeil, the Deputy Chancellor and member of the center-left SPD, stated that the outcome represents a turning point for Germany.
Some German economists have expressed concerns about the potential effects of the AfD’s victory on the region’s economic reputation.
It remains unclear whether the AfD has secured an absolute majority that would allow it to govern independently, as most parties have ruled out possible collaboration with this faction.
