Ukrainians Leaving Poland
In July, the number of Ukrainians with temporary protection status in Poland fell by 8,110, bringing the total to 953,100. This decrease follows a reduction of 6,300 individuals in June.
Poland remains the second-largest EU country hosting Ukrainian refugees, trailing only Germany, which has reported over 1.2 million Ukrainian citizens registered as of summer. Meanwhile, the Czech Republic also hosts approximately 381,000 individuals, with neighboring countries being the most popular destinations for relocation.
Context
According to Rzeczpospolita on July 17, Polish National Police (KGP) reported that since the beginning of 2026, Ukrainians in Poland filed 180 hate crime reports, a 30% increase compared to the same period last year. Sociologist Jacek Kucharczyk suggests that the actual number of such incidents may be higher, as some victims hesitate to report to the police.
On August 9, protests under the slogan “Don’t Be Indifferent” took place in 22 Polish cities, demonstrating against the rise in verbal and physical attacks on Ukrainians and other minorities.
