Iran launched an attack on U.S. military bases in the Gulf on Wednesday, following a wave of American airstrikes that targeted Iranian assets, marking the second such incident in a few days, according to reports.
The U.S. forces hit targets linked to the Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps, focusing on air defense installations, radar systems, and maritime assets, as announced by the U.S. Central Command (Centcom) on social media.
In response, Iran declared it had executed a “decisive retaliation operation” using missiles and drones aimed at “American bases and interests in the region,” as reported by the state news agency Tasnim.
The Revolutionary Guards claimed responsibility for attacks against U.S. military facilities in Jordan, Iraq, and Bahrain.
Trump Warns Iran
U.S. President Donald Trump issued a warning on his Truth Social platform, stating that if Tehran “responds to this perfectly justified attack, it will be struck again, much harder and more strongly.” He expressed that he prefers the current situation, asserting that the U.S. maintains “almost total control over the Strait of Hormuz” and that Iran’s economy is on the brink of “total collapse.” Trump also questioned, “When will the Iranian people rise up and fight?”
The Jordanian military reported it had intercepted ten missiles launched from Iran, with three more falling without causing injuries, while Kuwait reported being targeted by missiles and drones. Alarm sirens were also heard in Bahrain on Wednesday morning, according to AFP correspondents.
Iran’s Diplomatic Appeals Amid Attacks
Ebrahim Zolfaghari, spokesperson for Iran’s Central Military Command, warned of “more extensive and destructive responses” if American attacks persist, addressing the same caution to any countries collaborating with the U.S. military. According to state media, at least 11 fatalities have been reported due to the American strikes, including four deaths during a wedding in Hormozgan, where approximately 50 were injured, and seven others in Khuzestan from missile attacks that also injured eight people.
The U.S. strikes began shortly after Iranian President Massoud Pezeshkian called for a return to diplomacy, currently stalled. He stated that if the U.S. adhered to a protocol agreement signed in June, which was nearly immediately violated, “the Islamic Republic of Iran would take reciprocal measures immediately.”
