Andrei Rațiu’s Transfer to Fulham Falls Through Amid Disappointment

Andrei Rațiu, a 28-year-old Romanian international, has encountered yet another disappointment in his football career as his potential transfer to Fulham fell through. The defender was on the verge of joining the Premier League side, but the deal was blocked by his current club, Rayo Vallecano.

Rațiu was close to securing a move to one of the world’s most prestigious leagues after Fulham expressed interest. However, negotiations collapsed just hours before the transfer window closed.

Fulham had made an offer of €25 million, which matched the release clause in Rațiu’s contract with Rayo Vallecano. The issue arose from the payment terms proposed by the London club, which included installment payments. This meant Fulham could not activate the clause unilaterally, requiring Rayo’s agreement.

Rayo Vallecano Blocks Rațiu’s Move to Premier League

Rayo Vallecano did not respond to Fulham’s offer, leading the English club to withdraw their interest in Rațiu and shift focus to Sacha Boey from Bayern Munich.

This turn of events seems to diminish Rațiu’s chances of leaving Rayo Vallecano this summer. Spanish journalist Christian Vaquero reported that the Romanian defender is extremely dissatisfied with the club’s management, marking the third time president Raul Martin Presa has blocked a transfer for him.

“The transfer to Fulham for Andrei Rațiu has fallen through. I have been informed that the Romanian player’s frustration with Rayo Vallecano’s management is immense,” Vaquero stated.

Had the transfer gone through, Rațiu would have earned a net annual salary of €2.5 million with Fulham, under a contract that would have lasted until 2031.

Throughout his time at Rayo Vallecano, Rațiu has made 104 appearances, scoring 4 goals and providing 7 assists. He is valued at €18 million according to Transfermarkt.
