On Sunday, Russia declared its intention to prepare for “massive strikes” targeting Ukraine’s energy infrastructure, amidst a significant uptick in attacks over the past few months, as reported by Interfax and AFP.
The Russian Defense Ministry communicated via Telegram that “Russian armed forces have begun preparations for massive strikes against the energy facilities of Ukraine.”
These planned strikes are purportedly a response to the ongoing attacks from the Kyiv regime on civilian infrastructure and the oil and energy complex of Russia.
This announcement from Moscow follows comments made by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, who stated he has ordered his military to escalate drone attacks against Russia to 1,000 per day, up from the current rate of approximately 300. “We need more: there is a specific target and we will accomplish this task,” Zelensky stated on Friday evening.
Continuous Attacks on Kyiv
Moscow has intensified its airstrikes on Ukraine, deploying an increasing number of hard-to-detect ballistic missiles and new high-speed drones, which Kyiv lacks the aerial defense capabilities to intercept.
Additionally, Russia has maintained nearly constant drone assaults on the Ukrainian capital for three consecutive nights, leading to repeated air raid alerts issued by local authorities in Kyiv.
The latest attacks occurred after Russia launched hundreds of drones across Ukraine on Saturday, with most directed towards the capital.
Tragically, at least 37 individuals were killed in Bucha, near Kyiv, following a Russian airstrike that took place during the night from Friday to Saturday.
