New Billionaire Class Drives Spending in Upcoming U.S. Elections

A small group of billionaires and corporations is fueling spending for the upcoming elections in the United States. Unlike traditional players who dominated Washington’s political landscape in previous decades, this new class of billionaires is injecting substantial funds into the electoral process.
New Billionaire Class Injects Funds into U.S. Elections
According to strategists from both political parties, the influx of new money into American politics is attributed to this emerging class of billionaires. Data collected by the non-profit organization Public Citizen shows that American companies have spent an unprecedented $517 million on the 2026 House and Senate elections, surpassing the previous record of $461 million spent by corporations over two years for the 2024 elections.
This surge comes ahead of expected increases in campaign spending leading up to the November 3 elections, when Democrats hope to regain control of both the House of Representatives and the Senate.

Polls indicate that a majority of Americans believe there is too much money in politics.
