The largest oil deposit has been discovered in Poland

Central European Petroleum (CEP) informed about the discovery. The discovery of oil and natural gas was made in the Baltic Sea, about six kilometers from Świnoujście.
The company in the issued announcement reported that the discovery was made with the Wolin East 1 drilling hole. According to estimates, the bed contains 5 billion cubic meters of gas and 22 million tons of oil. Data They apply only to one well – the total resources of Wolin concession are to reach 27 billion in gas and 33 million tons of oil.
According to the company, the deposit is “the largest conventional discovery of crude oil in the history of Poland and one of the largest in Europe.”
The discovery will affect Poland's energy security
– This is a historic moment for both Central European Petroleum and the Polish energy sector. We treat this discovery as a foundation for long -term, responsible development of Polish marine resources. Wolin East is more than just a promising deposit – it is a common chance to release the full geological and energy potential of the Baltic Sea – said Rolf G. Skaar, CEP CEO, quoted in a message.
– The discovery of the Wolin East hydrocarbon deposit – although it still requires the preparation, submission and approval of the geological documentation of the deposit – may turn out to be one of the groundbreaking moments in the history of the search for hydrocarbons in Poland, especially in relation to areas of still insufficiently studied, such as Poland exclusive economic zone in the Baltic. If this discovery is finally confirmed, then the Wolin East deposit may become the largest oil deposit in Poland so far in Poland and the accompanying natural gas – said Undersecretary of State and the main geologist of the country Krzysztof Galos.
In his opinion, the future development of this facility can significantly contribute to strengthening Poland's energy security and reducing its addiction to external hydrocarbon suppliers, Provided, however, in advance of all necessary formal requirements enabling its operation.
Well for almost 3 km
The We1 well reached a depth of 2715 meters and was made of a jack-up platform at a water depth of 9.5 meters. The tests confirmed the presence of a 62-meter column of hydrocarbons and very good complex properties in the main dolomite layer.
Research at the well at the Wolin East well was possible thanks to the Wolin license, which the CEP obtained in 2017 from the Polish Ministry of Climate and the Environment.
Central European Petroleum Ltd is a Canadian search and consignment company based in Calgary, whose majority shareholders are the Norwegians. Its subsidiary, CEP Central European Petroleum, has a Wolin license and is the operator of the Wolin concession in northwestern Poland.
