Maria Sharapova, the renowned Russian tennis player, recently posted a series of unedited vacation photos taken during her trip to Greece. The 39-year-old athlete shared these images with her followers on Instagram, where she boasts over 4.8 million fans.
After attending the women’s final at Roland Garros 2026, where she was only a few meters away from fellow tennis star Simona Halep, Sharapova chose to spend her vacation basking in the sun on Greek beaches, accompanied by close friends. Her fans appreciated the authenticity of her posts, noting the lack of edits.
Maria Sharapova: A Renowned Name in World Tennis
Sharapova made her mark in the tennis world by winning her first Grand Slam title at the age of 17 when she defeated Serena Williams at Wimbledon in 2004. Throughout her illustrious career, she secured five Grand Slam singles titles and completed a career Grand Slam by triumphing at all four major tournaments. Following her victory at the Australian Open in 2008, she later won Roland Garros in both 2012 and 2014.
Sharapova held the WTA No. 1 ranking during her career and amassed a remarkable total of $38,777,962 in prize money. She retired from professional tennis in 2020. Although she frequently attends major events, she has completely stepped away from playing the sport she loves.
“I don’t play anymore; the last time I did was a few months ago. I love this sport, I watch it. I wish I had more time, but I don’t know if there’s anything in your life where you feel you used to be that good and, either because you no longer do it or your body doesn’t have the same tension, you can’t feel what it was like to be the best. Why should I be below my peak when I can do other things that help me grow, even if this is the best workout and brings back so many memories? The speed isn’t the same, the reflexes aren’t the same.” – Maria Sharapova on the “Pretty Tough” podcast.
