Gymnast Ana Maria Bărbosu (19 years old) was left, provisionally, without the bronze medal won at the Olympic Games, and Nadia Comăneci (64 years old), the former great gymnast of Romania, reacted for Gazeta Sporturilor.
The General Federal Court annulled the decision taken by the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS), which had brought Ana Maria Bărbosu the bronze medal, and the case was sent for revision to the CAS.
Nadia Comăneci, about Ana Maria Bărbosu's medal: “The prolongation of uncertainty generates a huge psychological pressure”
“I understand that this is a procedural step designed to ensure a rigorous analysis of all the facts. Beyond the technical aspects, my main concern remains the profound impact on female athletes. This prolongation of the state of uncertainty generates an emotional shock and a huge psychological pressure on the three gymnasts involved.
It is unfortunate that, after a colossal sporting effort, young gymnasts are forced to go through this carousel of emotions, instead of enjoying the performance achieved. Out of respect for their mental health and for the values of sport, it is essential that this process be resolved in a way that restores their balance and peace of mind,” said Nadia Comăneci, exclusively for GSP.ro.
