Tedi Expands Presence in Poland with Acquisition of Woolworth Stores

The German discount retailer Tedi, operating in 15 European countries, has announced the acquisition of 76 Woolworth stores in Poland, marking a significant expansion that will position it as a competitor to Pepco.

This acquisition boosts Tedi’s store count in Poland from 296 to 372, with the new locations being taken over from its sister company, Woolworth GmbH.

Tedi has reiterated its ambitious growth plans, aiming to reach 5,000 stores across Europe in the medium term.

Integration Process Nearing Completion

The integration of Woolworth stores into the Tedi network is well underway, with the acquisition also involving the retention of existing Woolworth employees.

Mirosław Huczek, an experienced manager from the Tedi group, is overseeing the efficient execution of this project. Woolworth, known for its discount model since 1879, remains a leader in the German market, with plans to expand its own store count to 1,500.

The company also operates in Austria and is set to expand into the Czech Republic and Slovakia in 2025.

Tedi Competes with Pepco

Founded in 2004 in Dortmund, Tedi currently operates in countries including Austria, Belgium, France, Spain, and Italy. The company reported gross revenues exceeding €3 billion for the 2024-2025 fiscal year.

Tedi offers a wide range of over 4,000 products, encompassing both branded and private-label items, including household goods, decorations, and toys. The product selection is updated monthly with about 200 seasonal and fashion items, similar to Pepco’s offerings.

In Poland, Tedi reported revenues of 792 million PLN and a net profit of 32.9 million PLN for the fiscal year ending in April 2026/27, employing 1,927 individuals across its 296 stores.

The company continues to expand in Belgium and is also acquiring other chains, such as the French Max plus.
