Protests Erupt in Kyiv Over Park Deforestation for Heating Pipeline

Protests have emerged in Kyiv’s Holosiivskyi district as a local park, home to century-old oak trees, is being cleared to make way for a new heating pipeline. Reports indicate that while the construction of the heating network was initially planned for 2023, legal challenges prevented it from proceeding at that time. Now, it appears that the local authorities have granted the necessary permits for the project.

Originally, the heating pipeline was intended to be installed along the street; however, the developer opted for a route through the park, citing lower costs as the reason for this decision. Activists have begun protesting against the deforestation, but reports suggest they are being forcibly removed from the area.
