In an exciting match, FCSB and Farul concluded their Superliga clash with a 2-2 draw. Post-match, Gică Popescu, president of Farul, shared insights on the game and the team’s future.
Popescu highlighted the desire for new player acquisitions, emphasizing the challenges Romanian football faced recently, with three teams eliminated from European competitions. Notably, Craiova dropped from the Champions League to the Europa League, while FCSB and U Cluj exited the Conference League.
Discussing the match, Popescu remarked on the solid first half by his team, noting, “We did not give them any chances to threaten our goal in the first half. However, our performance dipped in the second half, and we conceded a goal, possibly due to a mistake from Munteanu.”
“This draw feels like a point earned. If you had asked me before the match, I would have gladly accepted a draw. We’re not yet at our desired form, but it’s still a positive result,” he added.
With a roster of 25 players, Popescu is keen to field the best-performing athletes. He acknowledged FCSB’s strength, stating, “FCSB has strong arguments and valuable players. I believe the result is deserved.”
Looking ahead, he confirmed that the transfer window remains open for another month and expressed the intention to strengthen the squad. Reflecting on his playing days, he noted, “When I played, I typically found my form by the fifth or sixth match, and I believe it is similar now.”
Farul faces a challenging match at home against Csikszereda next. “We’re not in a favorable position,” he admitted.
Addressing the financial state of Romanian football, Popescu deemed this European season an unfortunate incident, stating, “To sign players from top leagues, you need money, and our football is quite poor—possibly the poorest in Europe. Until we can retain valuable players and attract others of the same caliber, we will continue to see the disappointing results we’ve experienced recently. Do not expect miracles because football cannot be played without funds,” he concluded in remarks to Prima Sport.
According to Popescu, “There are very few tasks left to complete at the stadium in Constanța. A few remaining works must be done by the Municipality before actual construction can commence.”
