Arsene Wenger, head of FIFA’s Global Football Development, has publicly responded to the controversy surrounding Gianni Infantino, the FIFA president. Infantino’s proposal to sell a portion of the shares and commercial rights for tournaments organized by FIFA has drawn criticism.
Wenger stated that the decision to withdraw the project was necessary, emphasizing that he was not a supporter of Infantino’s plan, which has since been abandoned.

“Recent events at FIFA compel me to express my view on this situation. I did not participate in the formulation of this plan, and I learned about the project for the first time through the media. The decision to withdraw it was absolutely necessary and undeniable, as I firmly believe in an independent FIFA that serves our sport with dedication, transparency, and integrity.
Alongside my team, I oversee the analysis of game data, FIFA’s online training center, the development of youth education through 60 academies in the 60 countries where it is most needed, as well as youth competitions worldwide. Additionally, I serve as a technical advisor to IFAB,” Wenger said, as reported by English media outlets.
Many football legends expressed surprise at Wenger’s silence amidst the ongoing controversy. Former player Tony Cascarino remarked, “The only one who truly surprised me is Wenger, who holds a key role in FIFA and is evidently an incredible manager. Absolutely nothing from Wenger, and everyone would think he would have something to say. But… considering how he has always performed, and I have always felt he loves the game deeply, along with his achievements as a club manager and his role in FIFA – Arsene is very, very quiet.”
