During a press conference with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky in Ankara on July 8, former President Donald Trump stated that the United States may grant Ukraine a license to produce Patriot missile systems. However, in a July 30 interview with the Financial Times, he expressed caution, saying that this is “an absolutely exceptional weapon” and that the US must be “a little more careful” about whom to issue licenses to.
Congressman Mike Turner highlighted that discussions regarding this matter are ongoing. He emphasized that resolving issues related to the Patriot systems is “very, very difficult” and called on the US President and the Pentagon to act as quickly as possible.
Turner remarked, “The fact that the President is initiating and stating that we need to consider licensing this technology will be truly significant—not just for Ukraine and our allies, but I believe for the United States itself.”

- The Patriot missile system is capable of intercepting ballistic missiles, but due to a shortage of interceptor missiles in Ukraine, their ability to defend against mass strikes from the aggressor country, Russia, is currently limited. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky reported that on the night of August 1, Ukraine managed to shoot down only one of 27 ballistic missiles.
