Dietmar Hamann, a 52-year-old former German international and Champions League winner with Liverpool, has voiced strong criticism of Argentine players Nahuel Molina and Leandro Paredes following their involvement in a post-match brawl after Spain’s 1-0 victory over Argentina in the World Cup final.
After the final whistle, Spain’s captain Rodri, along with several teammates, rushed onto the field to celebrate their win. In a moment of frustration, Molina struck Rodri in the abdomen, which led to an altercation. Eric Garcia confronted Molina, and Paredes joined the fray, kicking Garcia and subsequently attacking Gavi.
Hamann’s Strong Stance on Molina and Paredes
In an interview with Sky Sport Austria, Hamann stated, “I would suspend both of them for a year and then let them decide if they wish to return. Such behavior is unacceptable. They need to be punished without leniency. I would impose a 12-month suspension on both. They have tarnished much of the reputation they had, largely thanks to Messi.”
Initially, liveSCORE and some international publications reported that Paredes was sent off for his actions after the match. However, FIFA clarified that the Argentine midfielder did not actually receive a red card. There remains a possibility that both he and Molina could face suspensions if FIFA’s ongoing investigation recommends such action.
