Marius Baciu Praises New Ghencea Stadium After Successful Return

Marius Baciu, aged 51, expressed his enthusiasm for the moments spent at the new Ghencea stadium, where he enjoyed a successful playing career on the former grounds. He delivered an empowering message to both his players and supporters.

The Ghencea stadium has proven to be a positive venue for Baciu. The coach returned to where he first debuted with FCSB during a playoff match against FC Botoșani, securing a thrilling 4-3 victory back in May.

Baciu has achieved three victories as FCSB’s head coach, all in his first three matches: two wins during the Conference League playoff, a 4-3 triumph over Botoșani and a 2-1 win against Dinamo, as well as a 2-0 victory against FC Argeș in the opening match of the current season.

Marius Baciu on Ghencea Stadium: “Our home is also here”

The former captain of the red and blues, now head coach of FCSB, expressed his admiration for the impact his team has made. During the match at Ghencea, 8,424 spectators were in attendance.

At a press conference, Baciu shared his feelings about the new stadium, recalling his experiences as a player on the old grounds. “I had many joys at the old Steaua stadium. I see that we are in good shape, as we should be on any pitch. Our home is also here. It is at the National Arena and wherever we play,” he stated.

Even during friendlies in the Netherlands and Belgium, he felt they played at home, with a turnout of 2,000 to 3,000 fans. “The foreigners were surprised by how many Romanians come to our matches. I have tried to instill a sense of responsibility in the players to understand how important this club is and that they wear the FCSB jersey,” he added.

Baciu remarked on the challenging conditions of the pitch, attributing some difficulties to the heat. “I hope it will be much better if we play here again. It wasn’t what we desired,” he commented on the match conditions.

After the game, Baciu and his players connected with the fans who attended the opening match of the Superliga at Ghencea.

Throughout his tenure with Steaua from 1996 to 2002, Marius Baciu secured seven trophies, including three championships, two Cups, and two Supercoupes of Romania.
