Atlanta Enhances Security for England vs. Argentina World Cup Semifinal

The Atlanta Police Department is ramping up security measures ahead of the World Cup semifinal match between England and Argentina, scheduled for Wednesday at 3 PM local time (10 PM Romania time).
Authorities announced on Tuesday that “additional personnel and resources are already deployed and will continue to be strategically allocated around event locations to ensure a safe and enjoyable experience for all.”
Supporter groups from Argentina, including those from San Lorenzo, Chicago, Morón, Atlanta, Huracán, and Vélez, have already arrived in the United States and will be present for the match against England.
This match revives one of football’s most legendary rivalries at the Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta, 40 years after Diego Maradona’s infamous “Hand of God” goal, which sent Argentina past England in the 1986 semifinals.
This historic event occurred four years after the Falklands War, which resulted in 649 Argentine and 255 British lives lost.
Spain secured its place in the final of the 2026 World Cup on Tuesday evening and will face the winner of the upcoming clash between England and Argentina, set to kick off tonight at 10 PM.
