Ukraine’s Zelensky Orders Investigation Following Explosions in Vyshneve

Rescue workers in Vyshneve continue to manage the aftermath of destruction

President Volodymyr Zelensky stated that the primary targets of recent attacks by Russia were Kyiv and the surrounding region. According to the State Emergency Service of Ukraine (DSNS), the attacks in Kyiv resulted in 15 fatalities, while in the Kyiv region, seven individuals lost their lives and 29 others were injured, including four rescuers.

Zelensky noted, “Since this morning, Interior Minister Igor Klymenko has been reporting every thirty minutes on the rescue operations, debris removal, and fire extinguishing efforts. I expect the Security Service of Ukraine and intelligence agencies to thoroughly investigate what happened in Vyshneve.”

Additionally, he announced that the government would allocate funds from the reserve to assist the community affected by the events in Vyshneve.

Context

  • During the night of July 6, Russian forces launched 68 missiles and 351 drones at Ukraine. Air defense successfully intercepted 37 missiles and 326 drones. Yuriy Ihnat, spokesperson for the Air Force Command, reported that defense forces could not neutralize any ballistic missiles due to a lack of Patriot ammunition.
  • The attack on Vyshneve caused a large fire at warehouse facilities, destroying nearly 100 private homes.
  • By the morning of July 6, the detonation of explosive objects in the city had ceased; however, due to the risk of additional explosions, over 600 individuals were evacuated from the area.
