Ukrainian tennis player Marta Kostyuk made history by reaching the quarterfinals of Wimbledon for the first time. In the round of 16, she defeated American Ashlyn Krueger, ranked 102nd in the WTA, in straight sets with a score of 6-4, 6-4.

Kostyuk, currently the 13th-ranked player in the world, will face the winner of the match between Italy’s Jasmine Paolini and Alexandra Eala from the Philippines in her next round.

She is the only Ukrainian left in the tournament, while the top three players in the world rankings—Aryna Sabalenka of Belarus, Elena Rybakina of Kazakhstan, and Iga Swiatek of Poland—have already been eliminated.

  • On June 4, Kostyuk’s run at the 2026 Roland Garros ended in the semifinals against Andreeva, breaking a streak of 17 consecutive wins. The match concluded with scores of 1-6, 3-6, marking her first semifinal appearance at a Grand Slam event.
