Kyiv Experiences Fatal Russian Strikes, Casualties Reported

At least 11 people have died and nearly 50 have been injured, including children, following a series of strikes by Russian forces in Kyiv. The attacks have resulted in significant destruction across at least four districts, according to the State Emergency Service.
In the Podil district, a nine-story residential building was struck, causing damage from the fifth to the ninth floors. Rescue teams are currently conducting search efforts for survivors beneath the rubble.
Efforts are ongoing to address the aftermath of the strikes in several high-rise buildings within Podil, as well as in the Darnytsia, Obolon, and Holosiiv districts.
Ukrainian Railways has reported that train services to and through Kyiv are experiencing delays due to the attacks, with detours implemented for multiple routes including trains from Kharkiv to Chelm and Dnipro to Ivano-Frankivsk. Key stops along these routes remain operational, but commuter trains are also facing delays.
Authorities in the Bucha region of Kyiv Oblast have reported detonations of explosive devices as a result of the attack, advising residents to stay indoors and refrain from going to work. Local officials indicate that 15 individuals have been injured, including a nine-month-old baby.
Residents are urged to remain in shelters until further notice is given regarding safety. Photos of the destruction in the capital have been shared by the media.
Background
- Prior to the incident, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky warned that intelligence indicates Russia is preparing for a new wave of missile and drone strikes against Ukraine, potentially coinciding with symbolic dates around the U.S. Independence Day and an upcoming NATO summit in Turkey. He emphasized that these civilian casualties are part of Russia’s strategy to exert pressure on Ukraine.
