Mikhail Pichugin, a survivor of the Sea of Okhotsk, faces up to 7 years in prison. He became a suspect in the case of the death of his relatives – before that he was a witness.
According to our information, the status was changed at the end of December and Mikhail was summoned for questioning as a suspect under Criminal Code 263 Part 3. Pichugin testified and got acquainted with the examinations. There have been no trials yet, only investigative checks as part of a criminal case.
In early August, Mikhail, his brother and 15-year-old nephew began sailing on a catamaran to the Shantar Islands. The ship got caught in a storm and went off course. The men were left without anchors, an engine or an oar. The boat drifted for 67 days – sailors accidentally found it and brought Pichugin on board. The brother and nephew died during the drift from exhaustion. Pichugin himself has lost 26 kg and is still regaining his health.
