After the final whistle, French players, led by Mbappe, expressed their discontent with Paraguay’s overly aggressive playing style.
Deschamps Remarks on Aggressive Tactics Against Mbappe
Didier Deschamps, the French head coach, humorously addressed concerns about Mbappe’s treatment during the match and admitted to feeling anxious for his star player’s safety after the game.
Throughout the match, Mbappe faced repeated fouls, and the tension lingered even after the final whistle. As the game concluded, the Real Madrid forward was positioned near the Paraguayan goal when goalkeeper Orlando Gill approached him for a handshake. Instead, Mbappe directed a provocative look towards the South American fans.
Simultaneously, a scuffle erupted near the center circle, led by Paraguayan coach Gustavo Alfaro, as players surrounded the Uzbek referee Ilgiz Tantaşev demanding explanations for several decisions made during the match.
Post-match, Deschamps criticized the opponents’ playing style and revealed he had instructed some players to protect Mbappe after the match’s conclusion. “It wasn’t easy at all. They used every means possible. This isn’t the kind of football that brings people to the stadium. However, they defended very well. It’s always complicated against South American teams. I told my two strongest players to stay close to Kylian after the match, as they intended to tear him apart,” Deschamps said, according to RMC Sport.
