Polish Billionaire to Construct Modular Reactors in the UK

Synthos Green Energy (SGE), owned by Michał Sołowow, along with international partners, intends to construct 14 small modular reactors (SMRs) across the United Kingdom. The British government has described this announcement as a step towards a “golden age of nuclear energy.”
The UK Ministry has emphasized that its goal is to position the country as one of the most attractive locations for private investors pursuing nuclear projects. The government has long viewed nuclear energy as a means to reduce dependence on volatile gas prices in international markets.
SGE’s Plans and Partnerships in the UK
On Thursday, Synthos Green Energy announced its plans to collaborate with foreign partners to erect 14 SMRs at three locations within the UK. The project will utilize the BWRX-300 technology developed by GE Vernova Hitachi. These plants are expected to provide clean energy to approximately 8 million households.
Tom Greatrex, head of the Nuclear Industry Association (NIA), addressed the announcement, highlighting the multinational aspect of the initiative. “We must ensure maximum standardization of projects between the UK and other countries to lower costs and shorten construction times,” he stated in a statement to PAP.
The NIA notes that the revealed plans demonstrate the effectiveness of the Advanced Nuclear Framework program, which supports the development of new nuclear technologies. This initiative facilitates the acquisition of land for investments related primarily to small modular reactors.
