Two -level wagons will change PKP Intercity travels? They will be built in Poland

PKP Intercity is on the last straight in the tender for new, two -level wagons. After Siemens's withdrawal from the competition, two companies remained on the battlefield – Alstom and Stadler, both with Polish production plants. We will know the results of the tender soon, but it is already known that this project may be the largest order in the carrier's history.
PKP Intercity plans to buy at least 42 bunk and partly bunk wagons, with the possibility of extending the order to 72 units. The contract value can reach up to PLN 17 billion. Moreover, the contractor will be obliged to ensure a 30-year period of maintenance of wagons.
Regardless of the choice of the manufacturer, one thing is certain – new wagons will be created in Poland. The key question is: will their production take care of the factory in Chorzów or in Siedlce?
The new wagons are to accommodate at least 480 passengers, with options to increase this number depending on the configuration. The comfort of travel will be provided by, among others Air conditioning, access to Wi-Fi, electrical sockets and USB, as well as retractable seats with individual tables, footrests, armrests and adjustable lighting.

The interiors will be adapted to the needs of people with disabilities, and there will also be silence zones, bicycles and novelty – space for children. Instead of a traditional restaurant wagon, passengers will have at their disposal a “gastronomic zone” with vending vending machines and several seats.
PKP Intercity predicts that by 2030 the number of passengers will increase by 60 percent. Compared to 2023, reaching 109 million per year. – “Investments in modern, fast trains are crucial to meet the growing demand and at the same time ensure economic efficiency” – emphasizes the company.
When is the new two -story PKP Intercity wagons?
Currently, in Poland, two -level wagons run only on short regional routes at a speed of up to 160 km/h. New units are to be faster and adapted to long -distance routes, which will significantly increase the travel standard.
If the contract is signed this year, the first wagons will go to the tracks within 44 months of its conclusion. This means that new units can be available in just over 3.5 years. Currently, the documentation and offers are being verified, which introduces PKP Intercity to the finalization of this groundbreaking project.
