Wildfires in Chernobyl Exclusion Zone Release Toxic Air Pollutants

Recent wildfires in the Chernobyl Exclusion Zone have generated air pollution plumes containing high levels of carbon monoxide and particulate matter. These hazardous emissions have been tracked at distances of up to 170 kilometers from the site. The findings were reported by the Hydrometeorological Institute of the State Emergency Service of Ukraine and the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine.
