Iran-Linked Drone Attack Disrupts Maritime Safety in Strait of Hormuz

UN emphasizes the need for safety guarantees for sailors

Following a drone strike attributed to Iran, a Singapore-flagged ship suffered damage to its bridge, although the crew remained unharmed. The circumstances surrounding the incident are currently under investigation.

According to CBS News, the drone believed to be linked to Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) targeted the vessel, raising alarms about maritime safety in one of the world’s critical shipping routes.

In response to the attack, the International Maritime Organization (IMO) temporarily suspended plans for the evacuation of ships from the Persian Gulf, citing the need to verify safety assurances for sailors.

The organization stated that the situation in the Strait of Hormuz remains unstable, and coordination for vessel movements will only resume after further clarifications on the conditions for safe passage.
